1857 SEATED LIBERTY HALF DOLLAR PCGS MS 63 LUSTROUS SILVERY WHITE TOUCH OF AMBER. Heavy die polish in the obverse upper fields. I sent this in for reconsideration because I was concerned the diagonal patches were post mint artifacts. Upon inspection of this coin, it has been determined that the grade of MS63 is appropriate and the coin will remain at this grade level.

The striations that you have noticed, running at a 45 degree angle on the obverse, are not the result of cleaning but rather die polish. It was a common occurrence to polish the dies, usually with an emery board, if the dies were found to have clash marks, pitting, rusting, or normal deterioration from striking thousands of planchets. Die polish can range from subtle to almost comical. I have seen coins where the die polish is almost all you can notice.

As this coin is great for the grade, I will have it re-received as a reholder with true view as you requested. Anyway, glad to have this one back.
