Beautifully Toned, Under-graded, Unlisted Mint Error Piece! 1859 Seated Liberty Half Dollar.

Grease-Filled Dies (Not on slab). PCGS failed to note (or take note of) the mint error, causing them to completely miss the grade of this coin. And, we always like to offer you the PQ coin before having it re-graded, so here it is! The well-struck central designs look choice XF. Satiny mint bloom rolls over the flatly made peripheral parts of the devices, with only light actual wear spots on the highest tips of the design.

This piece was struck from grease-filled dies, causing not only the flatness around the extremities of the design, but also the complete loss of the last three stars on the obverse; and the upper part of AMERICA on the reverse. Typically, a piece with such loss of detail would be eligible for a Mint Error designation. And the surfaces are crusty and richly toned in olive green and tan hues, with gorgeous pastel iridescent toning dancing over the luster when tilted into the light.
