The 1888 Seated Liberty half dollar boasts a low mintage of 12,001 pieces, but a number of high-quality examples were saved by contemporary numismatists. However, circulated issues are much more rare making the current issue reasonably unavailable today.
Liberty Seated Half Dollar (1839 - 1891) - With Arrows (1873 and 1874) - After the motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the half and quarter dollar, the weight was changed and the overall weight went from 12.44 up to 12.50. For the second time in the series run, the weight change was designated on the coin with arrows placed on either side of the obverse date.
The designation was removed after a couple years with the new standard weight in play. This two year type was produced in Philadelphia, Carson City and San Francisco.
